Mrs Pratt nee Duffell migrated to Canterbury with her parents, William (1812-1892), an agricultural labourer, and Jane (31), brothers John (9) and George (4) and three sisters − she is either Emma (8), Ellen (6), Emily (3) or Elizabeth (1). In 1900, Mrs Pratt was living in St Albans.
At some stage the family lived in Sefton, as William was reportedly a farmer there.
Sources confirm Mrs Pratt is Ellen Duffell (1844-1905), who married James Pratt on September 27, 1864, at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Papanui. The couple had seven children, all boys.1
