Sources confirm that Mrs Buss (1844-1917) was the wife of William Buss, who was a farmer and auctioneer in Rangiora. They were married in 1867. Smith Howard, Elizabeth’s father, bought land in Hoon Hay Valley and later moved to Rangiora, where he farmed and also ran a brewery. 2
