The George Seymour
Mrs Mary Washbourn emigrated to Canterbury with her husband and children (see listing 12). It seems that Mary lived at “Brockworth’’, in Lower Riccarton, for most of her life.
According to a family member, Mary Washbourn was the second wife of Henry John Washbourn, and the children were from his first wife, who died in England in 1847. Family members believe this is a photo of Mrs Henry John Washbourne Jun. nee Fanny Durey, who arrived on the Sir George Seymour with her parents George (46), a grazier, and Elizabeth (48) and siblings Eliza (13), Elizabeth (19), John (16) and George (18).
Fanny and Henry lived at “The Bungalow’’ in Selwyn/Dunsandel after they were married.1
